A long-distance run in South India traditionally arrives with a tail of extras: the driver’s allowance for a night away, tolls settled in cash at each barrier, an interstate permit, parking at the destination, and a return-empty charge that appears in the conversation somewhere around the third hour.
All of it is inside our number. If you are travelling both ways, the return leg is charged at a lower per-kilometre rate, because the car was coming home regardless and pretending otherwise is just a way of charging twice.
For anything over about four hours we change drivers rather than run one person the full distance. It costs us more. It is not negotiable.
